50 years ago, coaching was something done on the sidelines in sports. Today, it has many applications. Woven together, these facets create a rich web of opportunities for transformation.

Coaching is a set of skills or competencies that, together, create a transformational process. The International Coaching Federation’s 8 core competencies include: Demonstrates Ethical Practice. Embodies a Coaching Mindset. Establishes and Maintains Agreements. Cultivates Trust and Safety. Maintains Presence. Listens Actively. Evokes Awareness. Facilitates Client Growth. 
Coaching is an action, having a listening conversation focused on possibilities. 
Coaching is a mindset, marked by empathy, curiosity and openness. 
Coaching is an approach to leadership and life. The coaching approach is non-directive, rooted in a belief in other people’s abilities. 
Coaching is a profession, practiced by hundreds of thousands around the world. The best-known coaching professional associations include the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the EMCC, and the Association for Coaching.
